DO - Uncommon Commute


Hundreds of passengers commute to Manhattan each weekday by ferry boat. New York Waterway runs ferry service to midtown and downtown from Hoboken North, as well as to downtown and Wall St. from Hoboken South. On the weekends, a ferry delivers passengers to Midtown from Hoboken North and South.

SEE - The Sunset


Hoboken is bordered to the north and south by tunnels to NYC, and to the east by the Hudson River. In the west, every night the sun sets, dropping behind the palisades of Jersey City that look out over this one mile-square town.

This Manhattan gourmet market chain has opened a location in Hoboken. Garden of Eden lives up to its name with a sushi counter, wide variety of produce, fresh meat and fish departments, and a stocked bakery. There is also a very large selection of imported chocolates and other treats. Prepared food is available throughout the day for a quick meal. Upstairs are tables and booths for customers to sit and eat, with windows looking out on Washington Street.

REMEMBER - "Heaven, Hell or Hoboken..."



Before the Armistice, over 1.7 million American troops came through Hoboken on their way to Europe. This statue in Elysian Park commemorates the soldiers of World War I with a quote from General John J. Pershing, who is credited with the rallying statement, "Heaven, Hell or Hoboken by Christmas":
To Perpetuate the glorious
memory of our citizen soldiery
who willingly sacrificed their lives
that civilization might not perish
we pledge our unfaltering purpose
to uphold forever the principles
for which they fought and died

CELEBRATE - Fake St. Patrick's Day





Every year the town celebrates St. Patrick's Day a week or two before the calendar date to avoid competing with NYC on the actual day. There is a parade, followed by day-long debauchery.

REMEMBER - The Civil War



Every park in Hoboken has a memorial statue. This one in the Stevens Park was dedicated in 1888 by General William Tecumseh Sherman. The inscription on this Civil War statue reads:
Erected by the citizens of Hoboken in memory of their fallen heroes
1861-1865
